The June Lyday Orton Award

The June Lyday Orton award recipients demonstrate outstanding service in the field of dyslexia. This award is especially meaningful to North Carolina because Mrs. Orton moved to Salem, NC where she established a clinic for reading & speech disorders at the Bowman Gray School of Medicine. She also founded a center for training remedial reading teachers. June Lyday Orton, along with others, founded the Orton Society (now IDA) in memory of her husband, Samuel T. Orton & subsequently, served as its’ president for many years. Her impact is felt all over the world and in our great state of North Carolina.
